Audience: Senior and Middle Leaders – Primary and Secondary
Course Overview: This course has been specially designed for school leaders to help you to develop the skills to lead outstanding assessment in your school and to support your teachers to put these skills into practice. You will gain the knowledge to support your teachers to understand how each assessment method contributes to and builds on their current practice, to maximise the effectiveness of school improvement. Good assessment practice allows teachers and schools to use assessment data to best effect, to move teaching, and learning forward, and to maximise student progress and achievement.
Outcomes and Content: You will: Get up to date on government policy, and the view of the NAHT Discuss and evaluate the principles of assessment Learn how to put your policy into practice Recognise the value of assessment and develop a clear understanding of different forms of assessment and their effective use Explore ways to lead the moderation of assessment judgements Understand what data you need and how to use if effectively to plan, support progress and set targets Develop an action plan of improvements for your current assessment structure Understand how to communicate your assessment policy to external visitors
Presenter Profile: Philippa Ollerhead
Philippa Ollerhead has many years experience in education, she has worked at senior leadership level since 1998. Philippa is an experienced Head of English and was Vice Principal of a large sixth form college, Headteacher of a pupil referral unit and Headteacher of a secondary free school. She has been actively involved with her Local Authority, working collaboratively on innovative projects for vulnerable students.
Philippa is a training partner for the National Association of Headteachers and delivers courses in Leadership and Management, Preparing for Ofsted, Improving Progress, Leading Safeguarding, Preparing to Join or Form a Multi-Academy Trust and Long Term Financial Viability.
As a highly experienced practitioner, she has particular expertise in teaching and learning, pre- and post- Ofsted support, coaching and mentoring, classroom observation, self-evaluation, leadership development, driving quality and assurance, governing body support, and senior leadership recruitment. Philippa is also experienced at leading and managing whole organisation pastoral care, human resources and academy finance. Philippa also works in collaboration with Lloyds Bank to deliver “Long Term Financial Viability” training to Academies and MATs.
She has been the lead manager on four section 5 inspections and is experienced in the rigours of Department of Education academy conversion and Free School quality monitoring.
