NQT & RQTs – Supporting your development as a teacher and future leader of SEND
Dates: 7th November 2017 (full day), Wednesday 10th January 2018 (half day) and Friday 27th April 2018 (half day)
Focus: Primary and Secondary
Building on The Carter Review 2015 and the Standard for Teachers' Professional Development (DfE, 2015), we wanted to offer schools an opportunity to support and develop the SEND capacity of their NQTs and RQTs. Led by Anita Devi, the programme will include background knowledge needed to equip teachers to support children with SEND as well as practical strategies for the classroom.
Day 1: 7th November 2017 10:00am - 4:00pm
This will cover the basics of the 0-25 years SEND Code of Practice 2015, implications for classroom practice and a personalised look at provision for the cohorts currently being taught by NQTs/ RQTs in your setting. It is envisaged modelling this methodology will help teachers develop long-term skills around meeting the needs of vulnerable learners for a wide range of SEND. Participants will be set a gap-task to deliver in their settings.
Day 2: Wednesday 10th January 2018 (half day) - pm 1:00pm - 4:00pm
This will be delivered in a SEND surgery format to look at has been implemented in school, and what has been the impact, lessons learnt plus any further refinements.
Day 3: Friday 27th April 2018 (half day) - pm 1:00pm - 4:00pm NQTs and RQTs will evaluate their practice and consider next steps, in terms of career progression.
It is our belief, investment of NQTs/RQTs in their SEND knowledge will support retention and further recruitment in the locality. Anita Devi was recently awarded The Influential Educational Leaders Award 2017 for the impact of her work in nurturing the SEND Leadership Pipeline from Teacher Training to SENCO Masterclass PLUS. This programme builds on her expertise of SEND and professional development.
