The Specialist Mathematics Teacher Programme.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Mathematics has been developed from the highly successful MaST Specialist Teacher programme. The programme has the ambitious target of ensuring that every school has access to a Masters trained mathematics specialist teacher. It is an aim that was promoted by the Sir Peter Williams’ influential review of primary mathematics in 2008.

Our programme, which has been running since 2009, is an 18-month Masters-level course. Participating teachers extend their knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematics and related pedagogy, and develop the skills to support other colleagues in mathematics. The focus is on promoting mathematical reasoning and mastery through the curriculum.
