Course description

A course for library staff to explore children’s reading development and identify effective ways to support and encourage reading in the primary school years.

Expected learning outcomes

 more understanding of how children learn to read and the teaching of reading

 the context in terms of current educational thinking and latest research

 practical ways to promote reading enjoyment and broaden reading horizons

 strategies to engage reluctant readers and overcome barriers to reading

 fresh perspectives on using books and other resources

 new ideas for liaising with schools over reading promotion

 tips for supporting parents and carers and embedding family literacy

Course leader

Anne is an independent trainer. She specialises in children’s and young people’s reading and children’s and school libraries.
